Post-Doctoral Associate in Geomechanical Modeling for Energy Applications
Join NYU Abu Dhabi’s Center for Sand Hazards and Opportunities (SHORES) to advance geomechanical modeling for hydraulic fracturing and carbon sequestration.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with expertise in computational geomechanics, multiphysics modeling, and experimental rock mechanics seeking to advance energy-related geoscience applications.
Overview
This postdoctoral position at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) focuses on developing advanced geomechanical models to simulate coupled fracture and damage in materials subjected to multiphysical loading (hydraulic, thermal, chemical). The project, supervised by Professor Mostafa Mobasher, aims to enhance modeling for energy applications like hydraulic fracturing and carbon sequestration. The successful candidate will contribute to theoretical development, numerical implementation, and experimental validation using physical data. Collaboration with multidisciplinary SHORES teams is integral to this research-intensive role.
What you'll do
- Develop advanced theoretical and numerical models for coupled fracture/damage in geomechanical materials under multiphysics loading (hydraulic, thermal, chemical).
- Implement and validate constitutive models using experimental data from high-pressure/temperature triaxial tests and digital rock technology.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary SHORES teams to integrate modeling results with broader energy applications.
- Conduct research on machine-learning applications for solid mechanics and digital rock analysis.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students or junior researchers as part of the project.
