Research Associate in Kidney Genetics and Genomics
Lead cutting-edge research on rare genetic variants causing kidney diseases using genomics and functional biology.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with expertise in human genetics, genomics, and molecular biology, seeking to specialize in rare kidney diseases and translational research.
Overview
This Research Associate position at the University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Renal-Electrolyte and Hypertension focuses on uncovering genetic mechanisms behind rare kidney diseases. The role involves leading projects on genetic variant discovery, functional genomics, and disease modeling, with opportunities to mentor junior researchers and publish findings. The successful candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary academic environment to advance understanding of congenital kidney disorders, nephrotic syndrome, and related pathologies. The position offers a fixed-term contract with potential renewal based on performance and funding availability, providing a platform to develop expertise in genomic and multi-omic approaches.
What you'll do
- Lead research projects focused on identifying and characterizing rare genetic variants linked to kidney diseases, including congenital anomalies and nephrotic syndrome.
- Conduct functional studies using cellular and vertebrate disease models, including DNA microarrays, exome/genome sequencing, and transcriptomic/epigenomic approaches.
- Analyze and interpret complex genomic and molecular data to uncover disease mechanisms.
- Provide scientific leadership for research projects, supervising laboratory technicians, junior bioinformaticians, and students.
- Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaborate with investigators across Penn Medicine to expand expertise in genomic and multi-omic methodologies.
- Mentor junior research staff and trainees, fostering a collaborative academic research environment.
