PhD Candidate in Ophthalmic Epidemiology
Explore the genetic, molecular, and environmental factors driving age-related macular degeneration using multi-omics and eye imaging data.
Best for:Best for early-career researchers with a strong background in epidemiology, bioinformatics, or biomedical sciences, passionate about quantitative analysis and multi-omics data integration.
Overview
This PhD position at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) focuses on investigating the relationship between aging and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) through integrative analyses of multi-omics and eye imaging data. The project is embedded within the Rhineland Study, a large-scale population-based cohort study involving over 14,000 participants with extensive longitudinal data. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research under the supervision of Dr. Dr. Petra Larsen, contributing to data collection, statistical analyses, manuscript preparation, and conference presentations. The role emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, independent research development, and participation in an international team.
What you'll do
- Perform integrative analyses combining multi-omics data (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics) with eye imaging data to study age-related macular degeneration.
- Contribute to ophthalmic data collection, processing, and coordination within the Rhineland Study cohort.
- Conduct statistical analyses and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences.
- Participate in project-related meetings, documentation, and progress reporting.
- Develop independent research ideas and contribute to ongoing projects within the research team.
