PhD Position in CFD Modelling of Multiphase Flows in Non-Newtonian Fluids
Advance computational fluid dynamics and multiphase flow modelling for complex industrial and biological systems.
Best for:Best for graduate engineers with strong computational fluid dynamics backgrounds and an interest in multiphase flow physics.
Overview
The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Chemistry and Technology Prague invites applications for a doctoral position focused on the computational modelling of multiphase flows involving non-Newtonian fluids. The selected candidate will extend current CFD frameworks to account for variable viscosity and complex rheology across gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, and solid-liquid systems. Work will be conducted primarily in computational environments with complementary experimental validation using rheological and physical data. The project involves industrial collaborations and aims to understand how rheological evolution impacts mixing efficiency, phase dispersion, and droplet or bubble distributions.
What you'll do
- Develop and execute advanced CFD simulations for gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, and solid-liquid systems
- Perform comprehensive mesh and model-sensitivity analyses to verify simulation accuracy
- Investigate multiphase flow behaviors in stirred tanks, bubble columns, and bioreactors
- Implement Euler-Euler or Euler-Lagrange approaches alongside breakage, coalescence, and dispersion models
- Conduct experimental rheological measurements to characterize fluid viscosity as a function of shear rate
- Validate computational predictions against experimental data such as mixing times and dispersed-phase distributions
