Overview
This position at the Computational Approaches to Modeling Language (CAMeL) Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks a senior research scientist to drive independent research projects in natural language processing (NLP), computational linguistics, and AI. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge work in Arabic language technologies, including grammatical error correction, text generation, and dialect modeling, while mentoring junior researchers and collaborating on grant development. The role emphasizes leadership, publication in top-tier venues, and the development of open-source tools. The lab, established in 2014, has a strong track record of over 200 publications and 20+ language resources, offering a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.
What you'll do
- Lead innovative research projects aligned with the CAMeL Lab’s mission in NLP and computational linguistics.
- Develop and manage independent research programs, including grant writing and collaborative initiatives.
- Contribute to the creation of open-source tools and language resources for Arabic NLP.
- Mentor junior researchers and students in research methodologies and academic writing.
- Publish high-impact research in leading journals and conferences within the field.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance the lab’s research goals in language technologies.
- Participate in grant development and secure external funding for research projects.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Language Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field with at least 6 years of post-PhD experience.
Language: English (proficiency required for research and collaboration); Arabic proficiency is desirable but not required.
Instruction: English
Publications: Strong publication record in leading journals and conferences.
