PhD Candidate in Response Diversity and Ecosystem Resilience (MSCA Doctoral Network ReDiLEEP)
Investigate how climatic extremes disrupt compensatory dynamics in plant communities to enhance ecosystem stability.
Best for:Best for early-career ecologists with a strong background in trait-based ecology, statistical analysis, and experimental design, interested in climate change impacts on ecosystems.
Overview
This PhD position within the MSCA Doctoral Network ReDiLEEP focuses on understanding response diversity in plant communities under climatic stress. Based at the Centro de Investigaciones sobre Desertificación (CIDE, CSIC-UV-GVA) in Moncada, Spain, the successful candidate will explore how temporal and spatial asynchrony among species changes under extreme climatic conditions. The project integrates observational, experimental, and macroecological approaches, combining analyses of regional datasets, field experiments, and global vegetation time-series data. The role offers interdisciplinary research, international collaboration, and comprehensive training in response diversity methods, data management, and science-policy communication.
What you'll do
- Develop and implement a Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP) and organize biannual supervisory team meetings to track research progress and skill development.
- Design and conduct laboratory microcosm experiments to study how environmental drivers influence species responses, community dynamics, and ecosystem stability.
- Analyze experimental and field data using advanced statistical methods and state-of-the-art computational tools.
- Collaborate with predictive model developers within the ReDiLEEP consortium to integrate research findings into ecosystem management tools.
- Publish research findings in leading international journals and present results at international conferences and workshops.
- Participate in interdisciplinary training programs, secondments, and network activities, including data management, reproducible coding, and science-policy communication.
