Overview

Northeastern University London, in collaboration with IMEC, offers a fully funded four-year PhD studentship focusing on computer science, algorithms, and hardware co-design. The project investigates architectures for Bayesian and Ising models that leverage the stochasticity of emerging magnetic random access memory devices. The successful candidate will work within a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment across institutions in London. Applicants are expected to engage in device characterization, probabilistic modeling, simulation, and hardware benchmarking across diverse workloads.

What you'll do

  • Develop robust methodologies to characterize the stochastic behavior of emerging MRAM devices.
  • Establish direct links between device-level statistics and probabilistic algorithms.
  • Build solid theoretical grounding in Bayesian and Ising probabilistic models optimized for MRAM characteristics.
  • Utilize simulation and emulation tools combined with profiling frameworks for energy, latency, and throughput.
  • Benchmark hardware and algorithm designs across representative workloads such as TinyML, edge vision, and federated learning.
