Structure-Function Modeling of Tillering Plasticity in Grasses
Develop a numerical crop model to simulate tillering plasticity in grasses under climate change.
Best for:Best for candidates with a Master's degree in agronomy or plant biology and a strong interest in numerical modeling and ecological simulation.
Overview
This PhD position at INRAE Lusignan focuses on investigating tillering plasticity in grasses to understand and anticipate plant responses to climate change. The researcher will develop and adapt a numerical crop model, specifically building upon the CN-Wheat framework, by integrating environmental variables like CO2, temperature, water, and soil nitrogen. Responsibilities include defining morphogenetic formalisms, calibrating the model for wheat and a perennial species, and designing controlled-environment experiments. The findings will help identify plant ideotypes capable of improving agricultural production and resilience in future climates.
What you'll do
- Adapt the CN-Wheat numerical model to incorporate tillering dynamics and environmental regulation.
- Formulate key processes governing tillering phases and their response to multiple environmental factors.
- Calibrate the model versions for both wheat and a perennial grass species.
- Design and conduct controlled-environment experiments to generate calibration data.
- Identify plant ideotypes that optimize production and climate resilience using the developed model.
- Draft scientific reports and publications in both French and English.
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree or equivalent (Bac+5) in agronomy, ecophysiology, or plant biology.
