MSc in Applied Geosciences – Geoengineering (GIN)
Explore cutting-edge solutions for geothermal energy, landslide mitigation, and groundwater protection in this interdisciplinary engineering-focused geoscience programme.
Best for:Best for geoscience graduates with a strong foundation in natural sciences and geosciences, seeking to specialise in geoengineering for sustainable infrastructure and environmental challenges.
Overview
The MSc in Applied Geosciences – Geoengineering (GIN) at RWTH Aachen University addresses critical challenges like geothermal energy development, landslide risks, and groundwater sustainability. Taught in English, this specialisation integrates engineering geology, hydrogeology, and applied geophysics to prepare students for real-world problem-solving. The curriculum combines core courses on rock deformation, geophysical exploration, and environmental data processing with specialised modules in geothermal topics, machine learning, and AI-driven analysis. Hands-on training includes laboratory work, field courses, and opportunities for international collaboration, ensuring graduates are equipped with both technical expertise and practical experience. The programme is ideal for those seeking to contribute to sustainable infrastructure and environmental protection through innovative geoengineering solutions.
What you'll do
- Study core modules on rock deformation, geophysical exploration techniques, and environmental data processing to understand subsurface dynamics.
- Specialize in geothermal energy development, landslide risk assessment, and groundwater remediation through tailored elective courses.
- Apply machine learning and AI tools to analyse geospatial and environmental datasets for sustainable solutions.
- Participate in hands-on laboratory and field courses to develop practical skills in geotechnical site characterisation and subsurface modelling.
- Collaborate on international projects with partners in Germany and abroad to address global geoscience challenges.
- Conduct independent research and contribute to the Master’s thesis in your chosen geoengineering focus area.
- Engage with industry practitioners through specialised courses and practical initiatives like the ‘Praxisinitiative Aachener Geowissenschaftler’ (PAG).
