PhD Student (Research Assistant) in Trustworthy AI and TDA
Investigate artificial neural networks using topological data analysis at the University of Warsaw.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in mathematics, computer science, or physics with a strong background in topology and neural network architectures.
Overview
The Center of Trustworthy AI for Life Sciences at the University of Warsaw invites applications for a part-time PhD Student position under the International Research Agendas Programme. The successful candidate will conduct advanced research on applying Topological Data Analysis (TDA) methods to understand how artificial neural networks function. Responsibilities include developing mathematical algorithms, analyzing neural representation geometries, and building computational tools using persistent homology. The role provides an opportunity to publish high-impact scientific papers and collaborate closely within an interdisciplinary research team.
What you'll do
- Conduct scientific research applying Topological Data Analysis to interpret neural network mechanisms.
- Develop novel mathematical and algorithmic models to study the geometry and topology of internal data representations.
- Analyze structural changes in representations during training and correlate them with prediction quality and generalization.
- Build and implement computational tools using Mapper, Ball Mapper, and persistent homology for convolutional and Transformer architectures.
- Design and execute computational experiments on real-world and synthetic datasets to detect adversarial examples and anomalies.
- Draft scientific publications, present findings at academic conferences, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team.
