PhD in Bio-Inspired Polymer Chemistry for Sustainable Catalysis
Develop programmable polymer architectures to enhance catalytic efficiency for green energy applications.
Best for:Best for motivated chemical engineers or materials scientists with a strong foundation in polymer chemistry and a passion for interdisciplinary research.
Overview
This PhD position at the Centre de Recherches sur les Macromolécules Végétales (CERMAV) in Grenoble, France, focuses on designing bio-inspired polymer catalysts for sustainable energy conversion. Inspired by natural enzymes, the project aims to create adjustable polymer environments to control catalytic activity using abundant elements. The successful candidate will synthesize programmable polymers and attach catalytic groups, working collaboratively with researchers at CERMAV and UIUC. The interdisciplinary environment combines chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science to address challenges in green chemistry and energy conversion.
What you'll do
- Synthesize programmable polymer architectures with adjustable catalytic environments.
- Attach catalytic groups to polymer backbones to enhance selectivity and efficiency.
- Collaborate with researchers at CERMAV and UIUC to integrate expertise in chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science.
- Characterize synthesized polymers and catalytic activities using advanced analytical techniques.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary research projects focused on sustainable energy conversion and green chemistry.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
