Overview

This PhD project focuses on the role of small modular reactors (SMRs) in a decarbonized energy landscape. The candidate will design advanced power cycles, potentially incorporating thermal energy storage, to improve the load-following flexibility of SMRs. The research involves numerical modeling to couple transient power cycle simulations with nuclear reactor dynamics. You will work within the Process & Energy department at TU Delft, collaborating with experts in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. The project aims to provide actionable insights for the growing Dutch nuclear energy sector.
