Postdoctoral Research Associate in Urban Climatology
Quantify urban greenhouse gas fluxes through a prestigious Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Münster.
Best for:Best for female researchers with a PhD in environmental or climate sciences and expertise in eddy covariance measurements or mechanistic modelling.
Overview
The Biosphere-Atmosphere Interaction Research Group at the University of Münster offers a two-year postdoctoral research associate position focused on urban climatology. Funded through the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship program, the project centers on quantifying greenhouse gas fluxes in Münster to deepen our understanding of urban atmospheric dynamics. The selected candidate will conduct advanced environmental measurements, collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team, and contribute to high-impact scientific publications. Applicants are expected to bring a strong academic background in environmental or climate sciences alongside expertise in micrometeorological techniques or environmental modelling.
What you'll do
- Design and execute field campaigns to measure greenhouse gas fluxes in urban environments using eddy covariance techniques
- Develop, calibrate, and run mechanistic models to simulate urban biosphere-atmosphere interactions
- Analyze complex micrometeorological and atmospheric datasets to quantify carbon and trace gas dynamics
- Prepare peer-reviewed scientific articles for publication in leading international journals
- Present research findings at prominent academic conferences and workshops
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members within the Institute of Landscape Ecology
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in environmental sciences, atmospheric or climate science, hydrology, or a closely related field
Language: English; professional proficiency required for research and publication
Instruction: English
Publications: Demonstrated track record of academic publications relative to career stage
- Demonstrated experience in eddy covariance measurements of greenhouse gas fluxes
- Proficiency in mechanistic modelling of environmental or atmospheric processes
- Strong track record of academic excellence and research productivity suitable for an international fellowship nomination
- Female candidates exclusively, in alignment with institutional goals to increase the representation of women in science
- Applicants must have neither studied nor worked in Germany previously
