Overview

The Master of Science in Biotechnology at the University of Hohenheim is an interdisciplinary programme that explores the properties, production, and applications of enzymes and microorganisms in food, life sciences, and bioprocessing industries. Students gain expertise in enzymatic production processes, biochemical methods, and food microbiology, including enzyme purification, characterisation, and gene expression. The curriculum combines foundational knowledge with specialised electives, allowing flexibility to focus on areas like biofunctional components, bioreactor technology, or general biotechnology. Research projects and a Master’s thesis integrated into ongoing studies at the Institute of Food Science and Biotechnology prepare graduates for independent scientific work and industry roles. The programme is taught entirely in English and includes integrated internship opportunities.
