Overview

The University of Edinburgh is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a three-year project focused on adaptive introgression in European butterflies. Working within the Institute of Ecology and Evolution, the successful candidate will lead population genomic analyses, including comparative scans of selective sweeps and the study of hybrid zone systems. The role involves utilizing chromosome-level reference genomes, whole-genome resequencing data, and high-performance computing environments. The appointee will also have opportunities for international fieldwork and collaboration, as well as the chance to supervise students.

What you'll do

  • Lead population genomic analyses across two primary project work packages.
  • Perform comparative scans of selective sweeps across 42 butterfly species to identify functional targets of adaptive evolution.
  • Integrate whole-genome resequencing and long-read sperm sequencing data to analyze hybrid zone systems.
  • Utilize high-performance computing clusters to process large-scale genomic datasets.
  • Collaborate with research assistants and international partners in France, Spain, and the Czech Republic.
  • Participate in international conferences to present research findings.
  • Supervise project students and contribute to the lab's research environment.
