Research Associate in Polymer Physics and Materials Engineering
Explore structure-property relationships in superplastic polymer composites using advanced in-situ X-ray scattering techniques.
Best for:Best for materials science graduates with experimental expertise in polymer physics, X-ray scattering techniques, and a passion for sustainable materials research.
Overview
This PhD position at the Chair of Biogenic Polymers at Technical University Munich (TUM) focuses on investigating the role of polar additives in superplastic polymer blends. The project, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), aims to elucidate the interplay between additive distribution, crystallization behavior, and mechanical deformation using cutting-edge in-situ X-ray scattering methods. The successful candidate will contribute to developing novel experimental techniques, analyzing complex material data, and advancing sustainable polymer science. The position offers a structured PhD programme with access to state-of-the-art laboratories and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities at TUM’s Straubing campus.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research on polymer-additive systems to study their mechanical and thermal behavior under stress.
- Develop and optimize in-situ X-ray scattering measurement cells for real-time structural analysis.
- Perform and analyze experiments using SAXS, WAXD, thermal analysis, and mechanical testing techniques.
- Develop data analysis pipelines and statistical methods for interpreting complex material datasets.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research partners to advance sustainable polymer science.
- Contribute to the development of a PhD thesis in polymer physics and material characterization.
