PhD Positions in Spatiotemporal Metamaterials and Light Fields (MSCA Doctoral Network SPARK)
Join a prestigious EU-funded doctoral network to advance photonic technologies through cutting-edge research in metamaterials and quantum optics.
Best for:Best for master’s graduates in physics, optics, or electrical engineering with a strong theoretical and experimental background in photonics, metamaterials, or quantum optics.
Overview
The Public University of Navarre (UPNA) offers two PhD positions within the **MSCA Doctoral Network SPARK**, a collaborative initiative training top-tier researchers in spatiotemporal metamaterials and light fields. This network, spanning academia and industry, aims to develop novel photonic technologies by exploring fundamental symmetries, quantum interactions, and structured light manipulation. Candidates will conduct research at UPNA, with mandatory secondments at partner institutions (e.g., Eindhoven University of Technology, Umeå University). The positions are fully funded under Horizon Europe’s MSCA programme, offering competitive salaries, international mobility, and access to a multidisciplinary training programme.
What you'll do
- Conduct original research on spatiotemporal metamaterials, focusing on either generalised symmetries (Position 1) or quantum-theoretical frameworks for light-matter interactions (Position 2).
- Develop and validate theoretical models or experimental setups to explore structured light and metamaterial properties.
- Collaborate with international partners during mandatory secondments at Eindhoven University of Technology, Umeå University, and industry partners (JCMwave, Menditech).
- Present research findings at network-wide workshops, conferences, and training events.
- Participate in a structured training programme covering research-specific and transferable skills (e.g., project management, scientific communication).
- Contribute to the broader SPARK network by engaging with industry partners and academic collaborators.
