Research Fellow - (Photo)electrochemical Catalysis
Advance photoelectrochemical catalysis for sunlight-driven green fuels, from catalyst design to working prototype.
Best for:Best for early-career researchers in materials science or electrochemistry with hands-on experience in solar-to-fuel device fabrication.
Overview
Macquarie University is seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to join an interdisciplinary team focused on green hydrogen, electrocatalysis, and sunlight-driven fuel production. The successful candidate will work on developing next-generation catalysts and integrated devices using advanced research platforms, including roll-to-roll magnetron sputtering. This role involves conducting experimental measurements, analyzing structure-activity relationships, and contributing to high-quality research outputs. The position is designed for an emerging researcher looking to build an independent profile through publications, grant applications, and collaborative projects. Applicants will work closely with senior faculty and national/international partners to translate renewable-energy technologies.
What you'll do
- Design, synthesize, and optimize electrocatalysts and photoelectrochemical materials for sustainable fuel production.
- Perform electrochemical and photoelectrochemical measurements including CV, LSV, EIS, and stability testing.
- Fabricate and optimize catalyst electrodes and devices using roll-to-roll magnetron sputtering.
- Conduct advanced materials characterization and collaborate on in-situ/operando synchrotron studies.
- Analyze experimental data to establish composition-structure-property relationships and mechanistic understanding.
- Prepare high-quality journal publications, technical reports, and conference presentations.
- Contribute to competitive research grant applications and new collaborative project development.
- Support and co-supervise HDR and undergraduate students in laboratory practices and experimental design.
