Research Fellowship in PSGL-1 Immune Checkpoint Protein Blockade for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Explore immune checkpoint modulation in lymphoma using advanced single-cell and spatial omics techniques.
Best for:Best for early-career researchers with a Master’s in Oncobiology or related fields, interested in cancer immunology, single-cell omics, and translational research.
Overview
This fellowship at i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde) focuses on investigating how PSGL-1 immune checkpoint protein blockade impacts the tumor microenvironment in non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The project combines single-cell RNA sequencing and imaging mass cytometry to analyze immune cell composition, differentiation, and function in a mouse model. Applicants will work under the supervision of Dr. Nuno Rodrigues dos Santos in the Intercellular Communication and Cancer group, contributing to translational cancer research. The fellowship offers a 6-month stipend with potential renewal, targeting doctoral students or those committed to enrolling in a PhD program in Biomedical Sciences or related fields.
What you'll do
- Characterize immune landscape alterations in B-cell lymphoma microenvironments using single-cell RNA sequencing.
- Perform imaging mass cytometry on FFPE tumor sections to analyze spatial distribution and functional status of immune cells.
- Investigate how PSGL-1 mAb treatment modulates immune cell composition, differentiation, and anti-tumor immunity.
- Conduct rodent experimentation in compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the Intercellular Communication and Cancer group to integrate findings into broader cancer research projects.
Requirements
Degree required: Master’s Degree in Oncobiology or a related biomedical field (e.g., Immunology, Cell Biology, or Biomedical Sciences).

Instruction: Portuguese (for local administrative procedures) and English (for research activities).
- Rodent experimentation certification (mandatory).
- Experience or willingness to enroll in a PhD program in Biomedical Sciences or related field.
- Basic knowledge of B- and T-cell biology.
- Familiarity with flow cytometry techniques.
- Ability to perform cell culture and immunohistology techniques.
- Applicant must be enrolled in a PhD program in Biomedical Sciences or related field, or provide an honor statement committing to enrollment.
- No nationality restrictions, but eligibility depends on Portuguese funding regulations (FCT).
- No age limit explicitly stated, but typical for early-career researchers.
