Research Associate - Electrophysiology
Lead electrophysiological and optical investigations of light-responsive neural proteins at Baylor College of Medicine.
Best for:Best for researchers with a Master's degree and extensive hands-on electrophysiology experience in brain slices or dissociated neurons.
Overview
The St-Pierre lab at Baylor College of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate to drive characterization and application of novel light-responsive proteins, such as genetically encoded voltage indicators and optogenetic silencers. Working in a dynamic environment, the researcher will combine simultaneous electrophysiological recordings with advanced multi-photon optical imaging. Responsibilities include executing complex experiments, maintaining and troubleshooting electrophysiology rigs, analyzing neural data, and supporting lab operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in cellular preparation, electrophysiology, and neural circuit analysis.
What you'll do
- Culture mammalian cells and prepare brain slices or dissociated neurons
- Conduct combined electrophysiology and optogenetic activation or multi-photon fluorescence microscopy experiments
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot electrophysiological recording rigs and experimental supplies
- Analyze experimental data using commercial software or custom data pipelines
- Train and mentor other laboratory members in specialized techniques, procedures, and experimental designs
- Document research outcomes, present findings in group meetings, and prepare reports for principal investigators
