Overview
The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is seeking an Associate Research Officer to join its Mathematics Section in Trieste, Italy. The successful candidate will conduct high-level research in mathematics and support the section's scientific mission by organizing academic events and mentoring visitors. This role involves a mix of independent research, administrative coordination of scientific activities, and teaching responsibilities within the Diploma Course Programme. The position is designed to offer long-term continuity, with an initial one-year contract that may lead to a tenure-track appointment.
What you'll do
- Conduct original, high-impact research in mathematics and its intersections with computing.
- Organize and manage scientific seminars, workshops, conferences, and topical meetings.
- Evaluate and select participants for postdoctoral positions, associateships, and visiting programmes.
- Teach courses within the Mathematics Diploma Programme.
- Collaborate with international visitors and associates, particularly those from developing countries.
- Assist the Head of Section in planning and executing the scientific agenda of the Mathematics group.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
Language: English proficiency is required for research, teaching, and administration.

- Experience in organizing academic or scientific events.
- Ability to teach at the graduate level.
- Strong communication skills for international collaboration.
- Must be capable of fulfilling the mission of the ICTP.
