PhD Student in Multi-Scale Antarctic Boundary Layer Cloud Modelling
Join a CNRS-led project to advance climate modelling by improving cloud representation in Antarctic conditions.
Best for:Best for early-career researchers with a strong background in atmospheric science, cloud physics, and computational modelling, interested in climate dynamics and polar research.
Overview
This PhD position at the Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique (LMD) focuses on multi-scale modelling of Antarctic boundary layer clouds to enhance climate predictions. The candidate will work within the ANR AMUNDSEN project, collaborating with experts in polar meteorology, high-resolution cloud modelling, and climate dynamics. The research involves analysing in-situ and satellite observations, conducting high-resolution simulations with the Méso-NH model, and developing new cloud parameterisations for the LMDZ atmospheric circulation model. The work is rooted in Earth and atmospheric sciences, with a specific emphasis on improving climate models for polar regions.
What you'll do
- Analyse in-situ and satellite observational data to characterise Antarctic cloud dynamics in selected case studies.
- Perform high-resolution simulations of Antarctic clouds using the Méso-NH model to study their microphysical and dynamical properties.
- Develop new cloud parameterisations tailored for Antarctic conditions within the LMDZ atmospheric general circulation model.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of polar meteorologists, modellers, and observational experts.
- Present research findings at scientific conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
