PhD position EEG and Neurobiological Markers
Join a PhD project investigating EEG and neurobiological markers of reward, motivation and impulsivity across major brain disorders.
Best for:Early‑career researchers with a strong quantitative background who are eager to specialise in EEG methods and neurobiological biomarker research.
Overview
The University of Groningen offers a four‑year PhD position focused on EEG and neurobiological markers related to reward, motivation and impulsivity. The project combines a systematic review, empirical EEG analyses, and hypothesis‑driven investigations across major depressive disorder, Alzheimer's disease and obesity. Supervised by an international multidisciplinary team, the candidate will develop expertise in EEG methodology, quantitative analysis and precision‑medicine approaches. The work involves synthesising evidence, processing large EEG datasets, testing biomarker hypotheses and integrating findings across clinical populations. Successful candidates are expected to work independently, publish results and contribute to the broader research programme.
What you'll do
- Design and conduct a systematic review of EEG measures linked to reward, motivation and impulsivity.
- Develop, preprocess and analyse EEG datasets from cohort and clinical studies using reproducible pipelines.
- Formulate and test hypotheses about relationships between EEG metrics and other neurobiological markers.
- Integrate evidence‑synthesis results with empirical findings to identify trans‑diagnostic biomarkers.
- Prepare scientific manuscripts, conference presentations and other research outputs.
- Collaborate with the supervisory team to refine analytical approaches and ensure methodological rigour.
