PhD Position in Non-Contact Laser-Based Fatigue Damage Monitoring
Develop innovative laser ultrasonic systems for advanced structural damage detection using nonlinear guided waves and machine learning.
Best for:Best for mechanical engineering graduates with a strong background in wave physics, signal processing, and an interest in experimental research and machine learning applications.
Overview
This PhD position at the Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences, focuses on designing and analyzing non-contact laser ultrasonic systems for selective Lamb wave mode generation. The project aims to improve structural damage identification in materials by leveraging nonlinear guided waves and advanced signal processing techniques. The successful candidate will conduct experimental and computational research, develop machine learning-based imaging methods, and contribute to high-impact journal publications. The work involves both theoretical analysis and hands-on laboratory experiments in Gdansk, Poland.
What you'll do
- Conduct theoretical and experimental analysis of nonlinear Lamb waves induced by structural damage.
- Develop advanced methods for full wavefield imaging using machine learning techniques.
- Perform frequency-mixing analysis and advanced signal processing of ultrasonic data.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of experimental setups for laser ultrasonic testing.
- Prepare and publish journal articles based on research findings.
- Collaborate with project team members to advance the non-contact laser-based damage monitoring system.
