PhD Position in Integrated and Printed Circuit Design for Sustainable Ubiquitous Electronics
Join a European consortium to pioneer biodegradable ultra-low-power electronics for sustainable IoT systems.
Best for:Best for electrical engineering graduates with a strong background in integrated circuit design, embedded systems, and a passion for sustainable electronics.
Overview
This three-year doctoral position is part of the GAIA project, a European initiative focused on designing transient and biodegradable electronics for a sustainable Internet of Things. The successful candidate will work within the Inria-AIO team in Paris, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary consortium of experts in telecommunications, embedded systems, and printed electronics. The role involves designing and characterizing ultra-low-power processors and radio components using both traditional silicon CMOS and biodegradable printed electronics, as well as developing proof-of-concept prototypes. The PhD student will contribute to state-of-the-art research, publish findings in academic journals, and present work at international conferences, culminating in a doctoral thesis.
What you'll do
- Design and characterize ultra-low-power integrated circuits for biodegradable and transient electronics
- Develop proof-of-concept prototype electronics using traditional solid-state and printed processes
- Collaborate with a multinational European consortium on telecommunications, embedded systems, and RFID technologies
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at academic conferences
- Write and defend a doctoral thesis at the end of the three-year contract
- Conduct literature surveys to stay abreast of state-of-the-art research in the field
- Work closely with a researcher, engineer, and another doctoral student on project tasks
- Contribute to the development of energy-harvesting electronics for sustainable IoT applications
