Senior Research Associate
Join a multidisciplinary team developing site-specific non-canonical amino acid incorporation into bacterial S-layer proteins.
Best for:Best for biochemists or molecular biologists with expertise in bacterial protein expression and non-canonical amino acid incorporation.
Overview
The University of East Anglia is seeking a Senior Research Associate to join the School of Biological Sciences for an 18-month fixed-term project. This role focuses on developing methods for the site-specific incorporation of non-canonical amino acids (ncAAs) into bacterial S-layer proteins, which have significant potential in catalysis and advanced photonic technologies. The successful candidate will work within a multi-institutional consortium supported by the Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA). Applicants are expected to contribute to experimental design, protein characterization, and regular collaborative progress meetings.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize methods for site-specific incorporation of non-canonical amino acids into bacterial S-layer proteins.
- Perform protein expression in bacterial hosts and conduct rigorous protein purification.
- Execute biochemical characterization of engineered proteins to assess structural and functional properties.
- Conduct molecular cloning and genetic manipulation as required by the research programme.
- Participate in weekly online meetings with the multi-institutional consortium to present progress and discuss findings.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external research partners to meet ambitious project milestones.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related discipline (or thesis submitted by appointment).
Language: English
Instruction: English
- Demonstrated expertise in protein expression within bacterial hosts.
- Proven experience in protein purification and biochemical characterization techniques.
- Strong proficiency in molecular cloning methods.
- Experience in the expression of proteins containing non-canonical amino acids.
