PhD Positions in Quantum Materials (IMPRS‑CPQM)
Join a joint PhD programme on solid‑state chemistry and condensed‑matter physics across Germany and Scotland.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in solid‑state chemistry or condensed‑matter physics who seek a fully funded PhD in quantum materials.
Overview
The International Max Planck Research School for Chemistry and Physics of Quantum Materials (IMPRS‑CPQM) offers a fully funded PhD programme that spans the Max Planck Institute in Dresden, TU Dresden and the University of St Andrews. Successful candidates will conduct original research on quantum materials, either experimentally or theoretically, while attending graduate courses and skills‑training workshops. The programme provides access to state‑of‑the‑art facilities and close interaction with world‑leading scientists at all three sites. Applicants are expected to bring a strong academic background in solid‑state chemistry or condensed‑matter physics and to contribute actively to the collaborative research environment.
What you'll do
- Design and execute original research projects on quantum materials, using either experimental or theoretical approaches.
- Collaborate with researchers at the Max Planck Institute, TU Dresden, and the University of St Andrews.
- Attend and contribute to graduate courses, seminars, and skills‑training workshops offered by the programme.
- Utilise shared laboratory infrastructure and computational resources across the three partner institutions.
- Prepare and present research findings at internal meetings and international conferences.
