PhD Position in Numerical Photonics and Moiré Optics
Explore optical vortex generation and twisted bilayer photonic crystals within an MSCA doctoral network.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in physics or engineering with a strong background in optics, numerical simulation, and photonics.
Overview
The Université de Namur invites applications for a fully funded PhD candidate position within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) doctoral network SPARK. Working within the Lobet research team at the NISM institute, the candidate will investigate optical vortex generation using twisted bilayer photonic crystals. The project involves theoretical modelling, numerical simulations, and collaborative research secondments at IMEC and INESC MN. Applicants are expected to hold a relevant master's degree and demonstrate a strong foundation in physics, optics, or computational methods.
What you'll do
- Perform theoretical modelling and numerical calculations of twisted bilayer photonic crystals.
- Design photonic structures to achieve robust optical vortex radiation and controlled angular momentum.
- Participate in a 3-month research secondment at IMEC focusing on nanofabrication exposure.
- Complete a 6-month research secondment at INESC MN focusing on structured-light characterization using off-axis digital holography.
- Collaborate closely with international partners across the SPARK doctoral network consortium.
- Contribute to scientific publications and present research findings at international conferences.
