PhD Candidate in Thermal Engineering: Natural Refrigerants for Ultra-Low Temperature Cooling
Join a 4-year PhD project at Universitat Jaume I to develop high-efficiency ultra-low temperature cooling systems using natural refrigerants.
Best for:Best for engineering graduates with a strong background in thermodynamics, refrigeration science, and experimental prototype construction.
Overview
Universitat Jaume I invites applications for a 4-year fully-funded PhD candidate position within the Mechanical Engineering and Construction Department. The successful applicant will join the Thermal Engineering Research Group to work on the NAR-ULT project, focusing on experimental development and advanced modeling of ultra-low temperature cooling systems reaching -150°C using natural refrigerants. Responsibilities include building prototypes, designing test rigs, monitoring system performance, and disseminating findings at scientific conferences. Candidates are expected to hold a Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and possess a strong background in refrigeration science.
What you'll do
- Conduct advanced modeling and simulation of ultra-low temperature refrigeration architectures.
- Design experimental test rigs and oversee the physical construction of cooling prototypes.
- Monitor, test, and evaluate the energetic and thermal performance of developed systems.
- Contribute to experimental validation targets aiming to achieve -150°C in refrigerated spaces.
- Collaborate within an international and multidisciplinary team specialized in heat pumps and refrigeration.
- Prepare research findings for publication and participate in international scientific conferences.
