PhD Position Adaptive Optimization and Control of Offshore Energy Systems
Develop advanced data-driven optimization and control methods to integrate renewables into existing offshore energy infrastructure.
Best for:Best for ambitious engineering graduates with a background in systems, control, or chemical engineering and expertise in optimization algorithms.
Overview
The Delft University of Technology is offering a 4-year PhD position focused on the adaptive optimization and control of offshore energy systems. Operating within the Delft Center for Systems and Control (DCSC), the researcher will investigate how to incorporate renewable energy sources into legacy offshore oil and gas facilities during their phase-out period. The project combines online data-driven modeling to account for equipment degradation with optimization-based control methods. The successful candidate will conduct high-level research, contribute to teaching duties up to 20% of their appointment, and complete a doctoral dissertation.
What you'll do
- Design and propose new adaptation methods for operating offshore energy facilities by integrating online data-driven modeling and optimization techniques.
- Develop control strategies that bridge existing infrastructure with the requirements of renewable energy integration.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present them at international conferences.
- Participate in the TU Delft Graduate School doctoral education programme to develop research and transferable skills.
- Assist with departmental teaching activities such as supervising workgroups, leading lab sessions, and mentoring BSc and MSc students.
- Collaborate with other researchers and academic staff within the Delft Center for Systems and Control.
