Postdoctoral Research Associate - Moreno Lab
Investigate the molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogen emergence and evolution at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with a strong background in molecular microbiology, bacteriology, or structural biology seeking translational infectious disease research.
Overview
A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Salvador Almagro-Moreno within the Department of Host-Microbe Interactions at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The research program focuses on understanding the molecular and ecological drivers of pathogen emergence, particularly concerning pathogenic members of the family Vibrionaceae like Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio vulnificus. The selected candidate will combine cutting-edge molecular microbiology, proteomics, and structural biology to map how microbial toxins and protein complexes function in their native environments. This role offers extensive collaborative opportunities across disciplines to advance fundamental knowledge and translational discovery.
What you'll do
- Lead independent research projects at the interface of molecular microbiology, host-pathogen interactions, and structural biology.
- Design and execute advanced microbiological and biochemical experiments.
- Analyze large-scale proteomic data and interpret experimental results.
- Contribute to the development of novel research projects, scientific proposals, and manuscripts.
- Collaborate with microbiologists, structural biologists, computational modelers, and chemical biologists.
- Mentor junior researchers and participate in multi-lab team efforts.
Requirements
Degree required: Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or a related discipline
Language: English proficiency for professional scientific communication
Instruction: English
Publications: A demonstrated record of scientific productivity and a strong publication record is essential.
- Strong background in molecular biology, microbiology, or structural biology
- Extensive experience with bacteriology and advanced molecular microbiology techniques
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute experiments independently and critically analyze data
