PhD Student in Electrical Engineering with Focus on Power System Adequacy
Explore power system reliability and resilience in European energy transitions with a PhD in electrical engineering at Uppsala University.
Best for:Best for electrical engineering graduates with a strong interest in energy systems, climate resilience, and interdisciplinary research in power system adequacy.
Overview
This PhD position at Uppsala University’s Department of Electrical Engineering focuses on investigating the security of electricity supply in the European power system under current and future scenarios. The project addresses critical knowledge gaps in power production reliability, particularly under extreme weather conditions and transforming energy systems driven by renewable energy integration, policy changes, and climate impacts. The successful candidate will conduct research within the Centre for Natural Disaster Science (CNDS), contributing to interdisciplinary collaboration and risk reduction efforts. The position offers a collaborative environment with experimental and numerical research opportunities, supervised by at least two faculty members. Teaching responsibilities may account for up to 20% of the workload.
What you'll do
- Conduct doctoral research focused on investigating the security of electricity supply in the European power system under current and future scenarios, considering climate change, renewable energy integration, and policy shifts.
- Develop and apply numerical modeling and experimental techniques to analyze power production reliability under extreme weather conditions and transforming energy systems.
- Participate in doctoral education courses and contribute to the research projects of the Division of Electricity.
- Engage in up to 20% of teaching and departmental duties, fostering collaboration with peers and faculty.
- Collaborate with the Centre for Natural Disaster Science (CNDS) to contribute to interdisciplinary research on natural disaster risk reduction.
