Overview

The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) is offering a PhD position focused on developing catalytic technologies for converting lignin-derived compounds into sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). The research involves designing and characterizing nickel-based catalysts supported on open-cell ceramic foams for use in continuous-flow reactors. The successful candidate will investigate how catalyst composition and reactor conditions influence the selective hydrodeoxygenation of phenolic compounds. This role provides multidisciplinary training in heterogeneous catalysis, process intensification, and reactor engineering, including an international research stay.
