PhD Position on CAD-Integrated Data Frameworks for Circular Design of Mechatronic Products
Develop innovative CAD-integrated data frameworks to advance circular economy strategies in mechatronic product design.
Best for:Engineers with a strong background in CAD, lifecycle engineering, and a passion for sustainable product development.
Overview
The University of Parma is offering a PhD position within the Engineering Methods & Tools (EMT) Group, focusing on the development of data frameworks for circular design. This role is part of the EU-funded ECODESIGN project, which aims to integrate lifecycle and circularity information directly into CAD environments. The successful candidate will work on enabling improved product traceability, disassembly analysis, and sustainability-oriented decision-making during early design stages. The project involves developing interactive CAD-based workbenches and facilitating data exchange between CAD systems and Digital Product Passports. Applicants will benefit from international secondments, specialized doctoral training, and access to advanced engineering laboratories.
What you'll do
- Develop and implement data frameworks integrated into CAD environments for circular design.
- Embed lifecycle and circularity information into engineering design tools.
- Facilitate the integration and exchange of data between CAD systems and Digital Product Passports.
- Conduct validation activities using interactive CAD-based workbenches.
- Participate in international research and training network activities and secondments.
- Contribute to the development of methods for design for manufacturing, assembly, and disassembly.
