Overview

The Spin Dynamics and Hyperpolarisation group at ETH Zurich is seeking a doctoral researcher to join their team. This position is funded by a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Starting Grant and focuses on enhancing the sensitivity of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. The successful candidate will develop new pulse sequences and apply them to complex systems in inorganic chemistry, catalysis, and organic radicals. The role involves a mix of experimental work, spin-dynamics simulations, and potentially quantum-chemical calculations or chemical synthesis.

What you'll do

  • Develop and implement new pulse sequences for EPR spectroscopy with improved sensitivity.
  • Conduct experimental spectroscopic measurements using state-of-the-art pulse EPR spectrometers.
  • Perform spin-dynamics simulations to interpret experimental data and optimize pulse sequences.
  • Apply developed methods to investigate inorganic chemistry systems, catalysis, and organic radicals.
  • Collaborate with team members on optical hyperpolarisation method development.
  • Optionally engage in chemical synthesis or quantum-chemical calculations based on project needs.
  • Take ownership of the research project and contribute to its strategic direction.
