Part-Time Bioinformatics Research Assistant in Neurological Disease Networks
A part-time doctoral position to analyse single-cell and spatial omics data for neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
Best for:Best for PhD students in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related fields with strong programming skills in R/Python and an interest in neurodegenerative disease research.
Overview
This part-time doctoral research assistant role at George Emil Palade University in Târgu Mureș, Romania, focuses on advancing bioinformatics within the NeuRoX project. Under the supervision of Prof. Irina Mohorianu, the candidate will analyse multi-omics datasets (epigenetics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) to infer gene regulatory networks and investigate their dynamics in neurodegenerative diseases. The position is designed to integrate seamlessly with the doctoral student’s study schedule, offering up to 60 hours per month of flexible work. The fixed-term contract spans from November 2026 to December 2030, providing a unique opportunity for doctoral students to contribute to cutting-edge research while pursuing their degree.
What you'll do
- Organise, document, and ensure data provenance for single-cell and spatial omics datasets, including metadata validation.
- Perform quality control, preprocessing, and exploratory analysis while accounting for batch effects and spatial structure.
- Develop, optimise, and compare gene regulatory network inference methods using R and/or Python, leveraging data science and machine learning.
- Create and document reproducible workflows, including version control and parameter tracking for computational efficiency.
- Interpret regulatory network dynamics across cell states, disease conditions, and spatial contexts, communicating findings via figures and reports.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to manuscripts or presentations as relevant to assigned tasks.
- Adhere to institutional guidelines for research integrity, data security, and responsible resource use.
