Postdoctoral Fellow in Auditory Genetics and In Vivo Functional Genomics
Join a leading research group at Indiana University to investigate the genetic mechanisms of hearing loss using in vivo functional genomics.
Best for:Best for researchers with a strong background in genetics, neuroscience, or physiology who are eager to apply in vivo modeling to auditory biology.
Overview
The Azaiez-Booth Laboratory at the Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow to advance research in auditory genetics and functional genomics. The successful candidate will integrate human genetic findings with molecular biology and in vivo disease modeling to understand the mechanisms of hearing loss. The role involves developing and applying cutting-edge techniques, including CRISPR-based genome editing and auditory physiological assessments, to characterize gene function. This position offers a collaborative environment with strong mentorship, providing opportunities to lead independent research projects and contribute to translational therapeutic developments.
What you'll do
- Design and execute experiments involving mouse models of genetic hearing loss.
- Apply somatic CRISPR/Cas genome editing techniques for in vivo functional genomics.
- Perform auditory phenotyping, including auditory brainstem response and otoacoustic-emission measurements.
- Conduct inner-ear tissue collection, histology, immunofluorescence, and quantitative imaging.
- Analyze molecular data to connect genetic perturbations with auditory and vestibular dysfunction.
- Develop and evaluate gene-regulatory or gene-based therapeutic strategies.
- Collaborate with team members to integrate experimental findings with human clinical data.
- Lead research projects and contribute to manuscript preparation and grant applications.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in genetics, neuroscience, auditory biology, molecular biology, physiology, or a related discipline.
