PhD Studentship in 2D Material Spintronics for Logic and Memory Devices
Explore next-generation computing hardware using atomically thin 2D materials for ultrafast, low-energy spintronics devices.
Best for:Best for experimental physicists or materials scientists with a passion for condensed matter research, nanotechnology, and spintronics, seeking to innovate in next-generation computing hardware.
Overview
This PhD studentship at the University of Oxford focuses on developing novel computing architectures by leveraging two-dimensional van der Waals materials for spintronics-based logic and memory devices. Under the supervision of Dr Safeer Chenattukuzhiyil within the MIND Research Group, the project aims to address the limitations of silicon-based electronics by exploiting spin conductance for energy-efficient, high-performance computing. The research will investigate information storage, logic processing, and neuromorphic communication, with potential applications in both classical and brain-inspired computing. The successful candidate will contribute to groundbreaking work at the intersection of materials science, nanotechnology, and device physics, addressing critical challenges in miniaturization and energy consumption.
