Doctoral (PhD) Student Position in T-cell Biology in Rheumatic Diseases
Explore human regulatory T-cell biology and tissue-resident memory T cells in inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.
Best for:Best for aspiring researchers with a background in immunology or cell biology eager to pursue translational molecular research.
Overview
Karolinska Institutet invites applications for a fully-funded four-year doctoral student position focusing on T-cell biology in rheumatic diseases. Working within the Rheumatology Division under the supervision of Associate Professor Karine Chemin and a team of co-supervisors, the successful candidate will investigate regulatory T cells and tissue-resident memory T cells in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and myositis. The role involves collecting and analyzing human clinical samples, employing advanced techniques such as full-spectrum flow cytometry and single-cell sorting, and collaborating closely with clinicians and international researchers. Candidates are expected to actively engage in coursework, scientific meetings, independent experimentation, and manuscript writing.
What you'll do
- Collect and process primary human clinical samples including synovial fluid, biopsies, and peripheral blood.
- Perform laboratory techniques including full-spectrum flow cytometry, single-cell sorting, immunofluorescence, and in vitro cell culture.
- Conduct bioinformatic analyses and manage experimental data using an electronic lab book.
- Plan and execute experiments independently under the guidance of experienced supervisors.
- Collaborate with clinical teams at the rheumatology clinic and international research partners.
- Present findings regularly at internal group meetings and international scientific conferences.
