PhD Position in Ultrafast Optical Control of Topological Magnetic Nanosized Textures
Explore ultrafast optical control of magnetic skyrmions for sustainable ICT solutions.
Best for:Best for experimental physics graduates with a strong background in optics, magnetism, or nanoscale materials science.
Overview
Eindhoven University of Technology invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on ultrafast optical control of topological magnetic textures. Working within the ERC Advanced Grant project TOP DESIGN under the supervision of Prof. Bert Koopmans, the candidate will investigate fundamental experimental physics of skyrmions. The role involves designing magnetic thin films, utilizing femtosecond time-resolved magneto-optical spectroscopies, and collaborating within a larger research team. The successful applicant will contribute to scientific literature, present at conferences, and complete minor teaching and supervision duties.
What you'll do
- Investigate fundamental processes underlying the deterministic creation and annihilation of sub-diffraction limited skyrmions using femtosecond laser pulses.
- Perform measurements using femtosecond time-resolved magneto-optical spectroscopies and magnetic imaging tools.
- Design and synthesize multilayered magnetic thin films utilizing the NanoAccess facility.
- Collaborate closely with team members and theoretical postdocs to analyze experimental results.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present results at national and international conferences.
- Participate in departmental teaching and supervision tasks for up to 10% of the working time.
