PhD Candidate in Organelle Biology and Proteomics for Cardiometabolic Disease Research
Join a cutting-edge PhD programme at Helmholtz Munich to investigate organelle dynamics and proteomics in cardiometabolic diseases using advanced mass spectrometry and bioinformatics.
Best for:Best for recent biochemistry, molecular biology, or related life sciences graduates with proteomics, cell biology, and bioinformatics experience seeking a structured PhD programme in translational disease research.
Overview
This PhD position at Helmholtz Munich’s Institute for Diabetes and Obesity focuses on uncovering cellular mechanisms underlying cardiometabolic diseases through organelle-resolved proteomics. Based in the Research Unit Cellular Proteomics and Metabolic Signaling, the candidate will collaborate within the CRC 1774 ‘Cardio-Diabetes Crosstalk (CARDDIAB)’—a multidisciplinary consortium integrating multi-omics, imaging, and AI to decode inter-organ communication in diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. The project combines biochemical, cell biological, and computational approaches to study metabolic signaling and organelle reorganization in disease models, contributing to precision medicine strategies at the diabetes-cardiovascular interface.
What you'll do
- Investigate cellular and mouse models of metabolic diseases to map organelle organization and metabolic signaling alterations
- Characterize protein localization and organelle interactions using biochemical and cell biological techniques
- Develop and apply advanced proteomics workflows (mass spectrometry-based proteomics, phosphoproteomics, lipidomics)
- Collect, analyze, and integrate multi-omics datasets with computational tools
- Collaborate across disciplines within the CRC 1774 consortium to translate findings into precision medicine approaches
