PhD Position: Design and Synthesis of Nanostructured Polymers
Develop advanced semiconducting polymer thin films for high-performance organic electrochemical transistors.
Best for:Best for chemistry graduates with a strong background in macromolecular synthesis and organic electronics.
Overview
This doctoral position focuses on designing and synthesizing nanostructured semiconducting polymers to improve organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) for bioelectronic and medical applications. Working within the POLYFUN team at the Institute of Chemistry and Processes for Energy, Environment and Health (ICPEES) in Strasbourg, the candidate will create functionalized polymer chains that maximize volumetric ionic capacity while preserving high electronic mobility. The project is supported by the ANR-funded MARBRE initiative and offers an opportunity to collaborate with the STELORG consortium. The successful applicant will engage in rigorous molecular and macromolecular chemistry, physicochemical characterization, and thin-film fabrication.
What you'll do
- Synthesize novel semiconducting polymers with functionalized side chains under inert atmosphere conditions.
- Fabricate and characterize thin films of nanostructured polymers with alternating soft and rigid regions.
- Perform physicochemical and optoelectronic characterizations of the synthesized macromolecular materials.
- Develop competencies in spectroelectrochemistry and thin-film device manufacturing techniques.
- Collaborate with parallel researchers focusing on OECT device elaboration within the MARBRE project framework.
