Research Fellow in Molecular Biology and Gene Editing
Join UCL's Cortese Laboratory to develop novel therapeutic strategies for RFC1 CANVAS and repeat expansion disorders.
Best for:Best for molecular biologists and neuroscientists with strong CRISPR genome engineering experience and a background in human iPSC models.
Overview
University College London invites applications for a Research Fellow position within the Cortese Laboratory, Department of Neuromuscular Diseases. The successful candidate will drive translational research focusing on therapeutic strategies for RFC1 CANVAS and related repeat expansion disorders, employing CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, gene reprovision, and small-molecule approaches. Working alongside collaborative partners including the ARUK UCL Drug Discovery Institute and the Genetic Therapy Accelerator Centre, the role involves developing engineered cellular models and conducting high-throughput screening. Candidates are expected to hold a PhD, demonstrate expertise in molecular biology and gene editing, and independently manage experimental workflows while supporting junior researchers.
What you'll do
- Investigate complementary therapeutic approaches including gene reprovision and CRISPR-based activation of endogenous RFC1.
- Develop engineered cellular models and CRISPR-based reporter systems for targeted and high-throughput screening.
- Validate promising genetic and pharmacological candidates in patient-derived and isogenic iPSC-derived neurons.
- Design, optimise, and troubleshoot molecular and cellular experiments independently with high scientific rigour.
- Collaborate closely with the ARUK UCL Drug Discovery Institute and the Genetic Therapy Accelerator Centre.
- Supervise students and junior researchers while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team environment.
