Computational Molecular and Materials Science (MSc)
An interdisciplinary Master's programme focusing on computational modelling, simulation, and data-driven design of molecules and materials.
Best for:Best for students with a background in chemistry, physics, or molecular science seeking to specialise in computational modelling and simulation.
Overview
The Master's programme in Computational Molecular and Materials Science at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg offers an interdisciplinary curriculum at the intersection of chemistry, physics, materials science, and computer science. Students engage with modern computational approaches, including quantum mechanical methods, multiscale simulations, and machine learning, to address challenges in areas like energy storage, drug design, and nanotechnology. The programme balances foundational academic training with practical research projects and individual specialisation. Graduates are prepared for advanced research careers in both academia and industry. The course is conducted entirely in English and requires a mix of on-site and online attendance.
What you'll do
- Complete foundational alignment modules to establish a common academic base.
- Master core techniques in modelling, simulation, and scientific computing.
- Participate in practical courses to apply computational methods to real-world problems.
- Conduct an independent research project within a research group.
- Author a Master's thesis based on original scientific work.
- Engage with current research developments through the Master's seminar.
