Overview

The Integrated Graduate School Solvation Science (iGSS) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum offers a structured doctoral programme focused on solvation science, a multidisciplinary field investigating how solvents influence chemical reactions and processes. Established as part of the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV, this programme supports over 80 doctoral students in conducting high-impact research within 50+ affiliated research groups across six institutions in the Ruhr region. Participants engage in a rigorous curriculum, including lectures, workshops, international internships, and collaborative projects, while benefiting from a supportive, inclusive, and international environment. The programme caters to both Master’s and Bachelor’s degree holders, with Track I for Master’s graduates leading directly to a PhD and Track II offering a preparatory year for Bachelor’s graduates.
