Engineer position in yeast synthetic biology
Engineer yeast metabolic pathways for sustainable carotenoid biosynthesis using advanced synthetic biology tools.
Best for:Best for molecular biologists and engineers with strong hands-on experience in yeast genetic engineering and synthetic biology tools.
Overview
The Micalis Institute at INRAE is seeking an engineer or Master 2 graduate to work on a synthetic biology project involving the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica. The successful candidate will join the Cosynus research team to develop microbial cell factories for sustainable carotenoid production. Key responsibilities involve genetic engineering, growth analysis at various scales, and analytical measurements using HPLC. Candidates must have strong expertise in molecular biology and yeast engineering, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a restricted-access research environment.
What you'll do
- Perform genetic engineering of Yarrowia lipolytica using synthetic biology tools such as Golden Gate assembly and CRISPR
- Conduct growth analyses and cultures at multiple scales including microplates and flasks
- Execute analytical measurements of substrates and carotenoids using HPLC
- Optimize algal metabolic pathways to establish sustainable carotenoid biosynthesis platforms
- Collaborate with research colleagues within the institute while maintaining independent project progress
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree or Engineering degree in synthetic biology, molecular biology, or microbiology
Language: English or French professional proficiency
Instruction: French and English
- Proficiency in molecular biology and synthetic biology techniques
- Experience with bioproduction and microbial cell factories
- Hands-on skills in molecular cloning and yeast cultures
- Strong organizational capabilities for managing multiple tasks
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a research team
- Must be approved by the SGDSN due to the restricted-access facility (ZRR – Zone à Régime Restrictif) classification of the Micalis institute
