PhD Studentship: Biomarkers in Breast Cancer & Deep Learning
Discover novel therapeutic biomarkers for breast cancer using multiomic spatial methods and deep learning at the University of Cambridge.
Best for:Best for quantitative graduates in computer science, AI, or mathematics with an interest in spatial cancer biology and deep learning.
Overview
The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is inviting applications for a PhD studentship supervised by Dr Hamid Raza Ali. The project focuses on leveraging modern multiomic spatial methods and deep learning techniques to analyze breast cancer tissue architecture and discover rational multidimensional biomarkers for combinatorial therapies. The successful candidate will work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team comprising clinicians, pathologists, and computational biologists. The role involves large-scale data processing, spatial transcriptomics, and imaging mass cytometry to map the tumor microenvironment and predict treatment responses.
What you'll do
- Process and analyze large-scale multimodal spatial datasets, including imaging mass cytometry and spatial transcriptomics.
- Develop and apply deep learning models for efficient data representation and cross-modal learning.
- Quantify heterogeneity and expression profiles of novel therapeutic targets within breast cancer tissues.
- Collaborate with clinicians, pathologists, and computational biologists to propose multidimensional biomarkers for combinatorial therapies.
- Participate in group meetings, present research findings, and contribute to scientific publications.
Requirements
Degree required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, artificial intelligence, mathematics, or a related field; biology and clinician applicants with computational experience are also considered.
