PhD Position in Ecophysiology and Adaptation of Field Beans (2027–2029)
A CIFRE-funded PhD exploring the ecophysiological adaptation mechanisms of field beans under environmental stress.
Best for:Best for plant biologists, agronomists, or ecophysiologists with a strong background in crop science and an interest in sustainable agriculture and environmental stress responses.
Overview
This PhD position focuses on the ecophysiology and adaptive strategies of field beans (faba beans) to environmental stressors. Conducted at Université Picardie Jules Verne in Amiens, France, the project aims to enhance crop resilience through interdisciplinary research combining plant biology, agronomy, and environmental science. The successful candidate will contribute to understanding how field beans respond to climate-related challenges, with potential applications for sustainable agriculture. The research aligns with broader efforts to improve crop productivity and adaptability in changing environmental conditions. The position is part of the CIFRE programme, offering industry collaboration alongside academic supervision.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research on the ecophysiological responses of field beans to environmental stressors such as drought, heat, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Develop and implement field and laboratory-based methodologies to assess plant growth, physiological traits, and adaptive mechanisms.
- Analyze and interpret data using statistical and bioinformatics tools to identify key factors influencing crop resilience.
- Collaborate with industry partners to translate research findings into practical agricultural applications.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Contribute to the development of sustainable crop management strategies for farmers.
