Researcher Position in Neural Electrophysiology and Bioelectronics
Develop next-generation bioelectronic interfaces for neural monitoring and stimulation using electrophysiology and 3D hydrogel cultures.
Best for:Best for biomedical engineers, bioengineers, or neuroscientists with hands-on experience in cell culture and electrophysiology, seeking to work at the intersection of bioelectronics and neural systems.
Overview
This one-year researcher position at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) focuses on advancing bioelectronic interfaces for neural systems. Under the supervision of Dr. Achilleas Savva in the Department of Microelectronics, the role involves electrophysiological characterization of neural cell cultures using microelectrode arrays and soft bioelectronic interfaces. The work spans cell culture preparation, integration with hydrogel constructs, and recording electrical activity to study neuronal networks and stimulation responses. The project aims to refine experimental protocols, analyze electrophysiological data, and contribute to scientific publications. The position offers interdisciplinary collaboration with experts in bioelectronics, cell biology, and biomaterials, targeting applications in neural interface engineering and electrophysiology.
What you'll do
- Perform electrophysiological recordings of neural cell cultures using microelectrode arrays and soft bioelectronic interfaces.
- Develop and optimize experimental protocols for cell culture preparation, maintenance, and integration with hydrogel constructs.
- Analyze extracellular electrophysiological data to investigate neuronal activity, network development, and responses to electrical stimulation.
- Investigate how 3D hydrogel environments influence cellular electrophysiology and neural interface performance.
- Contribute to the electrical and electrochemical characterization of bioelectronic devices as needed.
- Document experimental procedures, analyze data, and contribute to scientific publications arising from the project.
- Collaborate with PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and students in a multidisciplinary research team.
