Overview

An NIH-funded postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Bumsoo Ahn at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. The appointee will lead investigations examining how interventions modulating mitochondrial bioenergetics influence muscle performance and stress responses using cell culture and in vivo mouse models. The project integrates functional phenotyping, molecular biology, and mechanistic bioenergetic analyses within a multidisciplinary translational environment. The role offers strong opportunities for first-author publications and structured career development mentorship.

What you'll do

  • Design and execute experimental interventions affecting mitochondrial bioenergetics and redox balance, including voluntary wheel running and osmotic pump administration.
  • Perform cell culture procedures alongside rodent behavioral assessments and motor and cognitive testing.
  • Execute mitochondrial bioenergetic measurements utilising Seahorse Bioscience or Oroboros O2k high-resolution respirometry.
  • Coordinate comprehensive redox and proteomic analyses in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.
  • Examine and interpret experimental datasets and contribute actively to manuscript drafting and grant applications.
